First Chapter Musings
This first chapter in our little house of horrors has been a big old rollercoaster. That initial excitement has morphed into panic at the realisation of the task ahead, which in turn, has led to feeling pride as little hints of the finished project start to show. Not forgetting a lot of late nights and trips to the local falafel place to fuel our tired bodies…
Many of you have questioned why on earth we’ve taken on this project. Yes, getting a turn-key house would have been easier, but where is the fun in that?! We haven’t spoken much about who we are and what our lives looked like before brick dust became normality, and in time we’ll share more on how we got to this point. The main thing to know is that as a pair, we never do things the “normal” way. So when it came time to settle down - there was little doubt that this notion would be looking a little different than average.
Looking back and realising how much we’ve learnt since we picked up the keys, it’s hard to believe it’s been such a short time. We really have gotten to know every corner of this old house, for better or for worse. We’ve learnt the difference between woodworm and dry rot, what the hell a noggin is, realised the how controversial damp treatments are and so much more. This is why we are doing this - we want to learn it all, so next time we know exactly how to fix it or why it didn’t work.
We also can’t believe how many of you have been interested in following our journey. On the days where I can’t muster up the motivation to do anything on our long list of things to do, it’s your kind messages that reassure me that it’s ok and remind us of everything we have achieved. So thank you. We read every single one of your comments, and although there’s not enough hours in the day to get back to every one of you, please know how appreciated you all are!
This house has given us so much already, I just can’t wait to experience it once we can call it a proper home.
Have a fab week, P x
